Staying Focused on District 21: Local Leadership on Local Issues
Jeff Fimreite
3/27/26
We’re in the final stretch, and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the meaningful conversations and thoughtful ideas about how we can continue strengthening our district in La Crosse County. I am asking for your vote on April 7th, and my focus on the board will be for you, friends, neighbors, and residents of District 21.
My campaign has always been grounded in common-sense leadership, fiscal responsibility, and a strong commitment to the "local issues" that matter most to the people who live here. County government works best when it stays focused on practical, real-world solutions.
Like many of you, I saw a significant increase in my tax bill this year, and I know that matters to families across District 21. Our community deserves representation that prioritizes taxpayers, public safety, responsible stewardship of our natural resources, and the everyday concerns that impact our lives. I bring a proven track record of bringing people together and getting things done in a fiscally responsible way, and I’m ready to continue that work for you.
If elected, here are my commitments to you:
Fiscal Responsibility
Taxpayers deserve to know that their hard-earned dollars are being managed with care, discipline, and transparency. I am committed to responsible budgeting that prioritizes essential services, eliminates unnecessary spending, and ensures long-term financial stability. This means asking tough questions, making data-informed decisions, and focusing on efficiency without sacrificing the quality of services our residents depend on. Fiscal responsibility is not just about limiting spending, it’s about making smart investments that strengthen our community today while protecting its future.
Protecting Lake Onalaska
Lake Onalaska is one of the most important natural resources in the Upper Mississippi River system and a defining part of life in District 21. Through my work with the Lake Onalaska Rehabilitation Commission, the Lake Onalaska Protection and Rehabilitation District, Sustain Our Rivers, and the Brice Prairie Conservation Association, I have dedicated significant time to collaborating with federal and state agencies, scientists, and community members to protect and rehabilitate our lake. This work is rooted in stewardship, science, and collaboration. Many of you have seem my work with LORC and the bi-weekly blogs I have share with our work with state and federal agancies as well as progress on our North Shore Lane project.
Improving Roads and Infrastructure
Throughout my conversations over the past few months, I have heard consistently that we want safer roads, improved traffic flow, and infrastructure that keeps pace with our growing area. These are practical challenges that require thoughtful planning, responsible budgeting, and a long-term vision. Strong infrastructure is essential to a thriving community.
Supporting Attainable Housing
Our young adults, working families, and seniors deserve housing options that allow them to remain in the community they love. Supporting attainable housing is a shared community responsibility.
I have four adult children, three of whom live in La Crosse County, and I understand how important it is to create opportunities for families to put down roots here. We must pursue creative, common-sense solutions that expand housing opportunities, reduce unnecessary barriers, and support the nonprofits and community partners already doing this important work.
Strengthening Outdoor Spaces
District 21 is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation. Maintaining and improving our public spaces helps preserve our quality of life while supporting tourism and the local economy. Whether it’s parks, walking areas, or roadways, these investments reflect our commitment to community well-being and responsible stewardship.
Listening First, Leading with Common Sense
Throughout my career, I’ve learned that the best decisions come from listening carefully, examining the facts, and working collaboratively. That same approach will guide my service on the County Board.
The principles guiding my campaign are the same ones that have shaped my career:
- Common-sense leadership
- Fiscal responsibility and Respect for taxpayers
- Transparency and open communication
- Collaboration
- Local solutions
- Stewardship of our natural resources
- Support for families, workers, and community well-being
- Support of our first responders and law enforcement
County government works best when it focuses on solving problems, managing resources responsibly, and bringing people together. That is the kind of leadership I will bring to the La Crosse County Board.
