La Crosse County Board – District 21

My Commitment to La Crosse County

My commitment to La Crosse County runs deep. Through my work with the Lake Onalaska Rehabilitation Coalition, I’ve seen how collaboration, when allowed to function, can restore and protect one of our region’s most treasured natural assets. At the same time, I’ve also seen how layers of regulation, often created with good intentions, can prevent us from taking the meaningful, science‑based actions needed to save our waterways.

Lake Onalaska is more than a body of water. It is a gathering place for families, a habitat for wildlife, and a defining part of the natural beauty that makes our area special. Working to protect it has taught me the importance of stewardship, persistence, and community‑driven, common‑sense solutions.

With 30 years in education and administration, I am not afraid to speak up, ask hard questions, and challenge the status quo when it stands in the way of progress. On the County Board, I will continue to be a strong voice for the people I serve.

I also understand the challenges facing families because my own family is living them. Three of my kids live in La Crosse County, and like so many young people, they struggle to afford housing. Rising home prices, limited affordable options, student debt, and high property taxes make it difficult for them, and many others, to put down roots. Their experience reflects what countless residents in our district are facing: hardworking people who want to stay here but feel shut out of the housing market.

As your elected representative, I am committed to bringing these real challenges to the forefront and working toward solutions that matter to everyday people. My priorities are clear:

  • Protect our environment so future generations can enjoy the natural beauty and outdoor heritage of La Crosse County.

  • Expand affordable housing and support first‑time homebuyers so families can build their futures here.

  • Invest in infrastructure and public services to keep our neighborhoods strong, safe, and connected.

  • Encourage citizen involvement so residents feel empowered, respected, and heard in county decisions.

  • Support local families and businesses with policies that foster economic growth and opportunity.

District 21 deserves representation grounded in real experience—not abstract policy debates. My work with Lake Onalaska and my own family’s housing challenges have shown me what is at stake. I am committed to ensuring that La Crosse County remains a place where our children—and yours—can afford to live, grow, and thrive.

Together, we can build a stronger, healthier, and more connected La Crosse County.

Priorities for the county

Economic Development

With over 30 years as an educator, principal and superintendent, I know how to manage complex systems, balance priorities, and create environments where people thrive. Those same skills guide my work in supporting local businesses and welcoming new opportunities to La Crosse.

As a board member with the Lake Onalaska Rehabilitation Coalition (LORC), I’ve seen how collaboration and listening amplify impact,  whether restoring natural resources or strengthening our local economy. My approach is simple: hear community voices, align resources, and build solutions that help businesses grow, entrepreneurs succeed, and families prosper all while being fiscally responsible.

Sustainable Rivers and lake

Jeff was part of a nationwide alliance working to preserve river health and habitat, standing with partners from the Mississippi to the Hudson and beyond to protect America’s lifeline. Together we amplified local voices, shared strategies, and pressed for action as restoration funding faces cuts. Our work addressed urgent threats such as invasive species, erosion, water quality decline, and habitat loss, because the Mississippi remains the lifeblood of surrounding communities.  Finally, we called on Congress to maintain support for the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program, the cornerstone of ecological health, community resilience, and regional stability.

Community Engement

Strong communities are built on trust, and trust begins with open communication. I believe residents should feel heard, informed, and included in the decisions that shape their daily lives. Just as I’ve fostered cultures of listening and partnership in schools and community work, I will ensure county government operates with transparency and collaboration.

Through my involvement with the Lake Onalaska Rehabilitation Coalition (LORC), I’ve seen how diverse groups can unite around shared goals and achieve results that benefit everyone. County leadership should work the same way — responsive to residents, open in its communication, and committed to building bridges across communities.

By prioritizing open communication and collaboration, we strengthen both our governance and the fabric of La Crosse County, making it a place where people feel connected, respected, and empowered to shape their future.

Fiscal Responsibility

Every dollar entrusted to county government represents the hard work of our residents. I believe those dollars must be managed with transparency, accountability, and a clear focus on maximizing benefits for the entire community.

As a leader, I’ve overseen complex budgets and balanced competing priorities by listening carefully, aligning resources, and ensuring investments serve people first. That same approach will guide my work on the County Board: making thoughtful decisions that strengthen essential services, support local businesses, protect our environment, and improve quality of life across La Crosse County.

Wise stewardship of taxpayer dollars isn’t just about saving money; it’s about building trust, ensuring fairness, and creating long‑term stability so our community can thrive today and for generations to come.
